Coaching For Fast Failure

In last week’s post, I wrote about was “failing fast” for strong innovation (linked). It is critical to become comfortable with doing brand new things, taking risks and yes, failing, if you want to be more successful and grow. Experimenting! One way to minimize the negative feelings that come with failure is to take an “experiment” approach. If you think of it as an experiment and let go of your attachment to the need to be successful then you […]

Coaching For Leadership with Creativity & Innovation

A couple of weeks ago I had the good fortune of hearing a great expert on the subject of creativity in the business world. Dr. George Land of the Farsight Group started his speech with a powerful statement from a study done of a large group of CEO’s: “Innovation and creativity are the two most important leadership qualities necessary in the next five years.”  And he went on to tell us that the U.S. council on competitiveness made a […]

Coaching the Joy of Ordinary Moments

Several moments happened over the past couple weeks that made me think about this topic: – I read my sister’s post on Facebook, “Is it strange that I get so much joy from a freshly swept garage?” – A feeling of pure enjoyment while dancing in my Mom’s family room with my 7-year old niece while my 4-year old nephew banged on his new electric drum set. – My wonderful man-love (this is better than boyfriend), helped unplug my […]

Revealing the Secrets of the Big Corporate Buyer

This is a special post to let you know that I’ll be giving a speech, “Growing Your Sales: Revealing the Secrets of the Big Corporate Buyer” on April 20, 2011 (next week)! One of my small “secrets” is to really do your homework on the business you are selling in to. “Well, duh, that is no secret!” you may be thinking. But sad to say, in my corporate buying experience I built up a level of disdain toward salespeople […]

Your internalGPS is Unique to You 3

“You are unrepeatable. There is a magic about you that is all your own…” – D.M. Dellinger One of the benefits of getting older is growing into the peace of accepting who you are and letting go of trying to be something or someone that you are not. Of course, keep growing and learning and improving but acceptance of who you are today is always the best starting point. Acknowledge Your Communication Style Preferences Last month, I did a […]

Coaching For No With Your internalGPS

Just Say No This is easier said than done to new opportunities and critically importanty for effective time management and success. If I keep saying yes, then I end up cleaning up a mess of disappointment. It also applies to managing your time with your team. Here are some of my coaching questions to deal with saying no. What Is Your Criteria? How do you determine whether you will say yes or no to a new opportunity? One of […]

Coaching the Power of Words 2

Words are so powerful, especially the words we do not verbalize. My coaching clients consistently have opportunities to become more aware of their internal words and then to change them. This week I learned some great new words for doing just that. Life (and Golf) is At Least 80% Mindset I went to a great golf clinic (as part of WomenOnCourse, a wonderful networking group) this past week that was all about mindset; there was no mechanical instruction at […]

Empowering Little Gestures 2

Last week I took my very dirty car to the car wash; I was glad that I remembered to take it in on Tuesday. Every Tuesday is “Ladies Day” at Danny’s Family car wash (link has locations) and they give me a small discount. Imagine my surprise when the cashier rang up the regular price with no discount! “Isn’t there a discount since it is Tuesday?” I asked. She thought a minute and then said, “But it is Wednesday.” I […]

Coaching Through Rude Behavior 1

I was tired from working late the day before but went into the office early to try and get some overdue actions done while it was quiet and before my staff arrived and the next 8 hours of back to back meetings started. I made the mistake of answering the phone; the male voice asked how I was and then launched into a description of some product that I had no need for at all. “How did you get this […]

Mardi Gras, Rules and Freedom

I took a bit of a risk posting this picture but I think it speaks volumes about our freedoms that we sometimes take for granted. It arrived in a text message this past weekend with the words, “Happy Mardi Gras!” I later learned that this sign was held along side chants of “Show me your tits” with colored beads flying everywhere and more chants of “You will burn in hell.” Diversity and freedom on many extreme levels! As crazy […]
