“I am inspired by what you are doing!” and “I don’t understand what you are doing!” are both reactions to my choice of path to leave (or more recently turn down) a large corporate job and run my own business. The path of the corporate job and the path of entrepreneur both have their positives and negatives and there is no one right path. It is so important to listen to your internalGPS and take the path that is best for you. Don’t get caught up in the “grass is greener over there” syndrome; do your homework before you change from one path to the other and consider all the factors. I love this quote from this Harvard Business Review article, “The Best Path to Success is Your Own“:
“Whether you’re betting on the staying power of established institutions or in the promise of start-ups, you must keep the clash alive within yourself. Being successful and fulfilled in a large organization, in the long run, will require carving your space, innovating, making your mark. In a new venture, it will require staying connected to, influencing, and maybe one day becoming, the mainstream.”
Any path is the right path if you are thriving, giving your best and making a difference in serving those around you.
The best of success and thriving to you as you continue on your path or change paths; either way you are making a choice.
