I heard this great metaphor in the movie, “The Great Exotic Marigold Hotel”: Change is like a big wave, resist it and you will get knocked down, dive into it and you will swim through to the other side. The changes you resist in your industry, in your organization or in your life are the ones that stress you out and sap your energy. If you can figure out a way to dive in and deal with the changes then you will find yourself more successful and less stressed out.
Take a big breath and dive in, it is such a better place to be!
We just had a big wave of change happen in my commpany. Our timecard system is changing so that on the last Friday half the day is on one timecard while the other half is on next week’s. As you can imagine, this has everyone stressed out. “why must it change?!” “this is stupid!” “it was fine before!”. I’ve just decided to jump into the change and do it the new way, and magically the stress went away.
Thanks for sharing Brenda! That is a perfect example of how diving into change zaps away the stress of it!
